Alexa and Maxx’s wedding reception at Villa Barone Hilltop was a full on dance party! By merging American and Albanian wedding traditions, their wedding was unforgettable in all the best ways. But, before I get ahead of myself…
Maxx and I actually went to the same schools from elementary through high school. He was (and is) one of those people who is friends with everyone. He is easy going, always has a smile on his face, and genuinely easy to get along with. It’s definitely no secret Alexa share these same qualities. The two met in freshman year of college. Everyone at their wedding was so happy to surround them in celebration because they are just good people. It was an absolute honor to get to photograph their wedding to say the least.
The bride and groom rented Airbnbs for their wedding party of two and family to get ready at the day-of. I love the Airbnb setting because you can truly have a whole space dedicated for your people. Plus, everyone can stay the night before and no one is late in the morning for hair and makeup.
I immediately fell in love with Alexa’s dress! The opaque backing with lace train was beautiful and therefore made a traditional dress worthy of a double-take. Half of the train actually had the option to come off, so she could have a long train for the ceremony then shorter, more manageable, train for pictures later on. For Maxx, instead of wearing a traditional boutonnière with his sleek navy tux, he wore a orange rose pin that complimented the wedding florals at the ceremony and reception space.
Once first looks wrapped, we headed to the Monastery Church for the ceremony. I’m always in awe of Church Cathedrals architecture and the attention to every element of design details. For this reason, I don’t think I’ll ever tire of photographing Cathedral weddings.
Another neat thing that Alexa and Maxx incorporated into their ceremony were bagpipes, to incorporate Maxx’s Irish Heritage. They had them played as guests where leaving the church for a receiving line. Guests loved it!
Before the reception officially began, Alexa had a second hair and makeup look for the evening. We love a party pony! The reception began with an entrance of the American, Irish and Albanian flags, followed by the family entering and bride and groom being introduced.
The night went on with lots of dancing! One dance in particular that was fun to watch was the traditional Albanian first dance. This is where the groom puts on a special Albanian vest and family and friends make it rain with money! There was so much laughter, and of course, dancing during this time.
