Surprise New York Botanical Gardens Proposal

The New York Botanical Gardens proposal I recently captured holds a special place in my heart. Because Mike and Natalie are dear friends of mine, who were actually present at my own wedding, their proposal felt more like a family affair.

Natalie, a meticulous and forward-thinking girl (my kind of bride!), always envisioned her proposal photographed by me. What an honor! So, when Mike reached out, I was all in. After a bit of date juggling due to Natalie’s nail tech being on vacation (a non-negotiable detail for her), we settled on a weekend that worked for everyone.

Surprise Proposal at the New York Botanical Gardens

Mike knew the exact location he wanted to propose, the incredible NY Botanical Gardens. Knowing Natalie would want a romantic vibe, I suggested the historic and iconic rose garden. We aimed for golden hour, around 5:00 PM. We were a little concerned, because the weather forecast threatened rain all day. Despite the impending weather warning, Mike was determined—rain or shine, that the proposal would happen. So, I geared up with rain boots, a jacket, and my camera. To avoid being spotted, I sent Mike a discreet “Find My Friends” request to track their movements throughout the grounds.

Mike’s detailed planning and persistence paid off! They entered the garden and headed straight for the gazebo. Mike convinced Natalie to take off her raincoat for a supposedly self-timed photo, when he dropped to one knee. She didn’t see it coming! The big moment unfolded with a romantic kiss in the rain. The weather was cold and wet, but it turned out to be the most incredible proposal!

Afterwards, we wandered through the gardens, shooting in various locations throughout the Botanical Gardens. If you’re looking for a romantic, breathtaking location, the New York Botanical Gardens is a unique and spectacular place for proposals, engagement sessions, or even weddings.
